Our Place – Morganton, NC
Morganton, North Carolina is a small city of about 17,000 residents in the western part of the state. It is part of the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton Metropolitan Area, which has a population of over 365,000 people. A survey of demographics studies highlighted Morganton as being:
Morganton is a diverse city in a multitude of ways. It has a uniquely large minority population for a rural city, with over 15% of the city being minorities. Additionally, there is a large diversity of ages, genders and ideologies coming together in the city.
Morganton’s population has steadily grown to the point of encountering a housing shortage. It has been highlighted in national publications for the resurgence of their downtown. From a budding art community, new restaurants, breweries and more, Morganton is consistently growing.
Morganton sits as a principle city in the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton Metropolitan Area and the county seat for Burke County. Additionally, Morganton has one of the highest concentrations of state employees in North Carolina. Among the largest state employers in the City are Broughton Hospital, North Carolina School for the Deaf, J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Institute, and Western Piedmont Community College. The North Carolina school of Science and Math is opening its western campus in Morganton. Morganton is a great area of influence for the region, as well as the state.
Most importantly Morganton feels like home to us. Billy grew up in the area living there for over 15 years. There are many relationships from school and previous employment and we see it as the perfect place for us to raise children and remain planted for the long term.
